Shower Screen Glass Options

All shower screen glass supplied by Online Glass NSW is toughened (tempered) safety glass, compliant with AS1288. Choose your finish below.

🔲

Clear Toughened Glass

The industry-standard choice for frameless and semi-frameless shower screens. Clear toughened glass is strong, hygienic, and easy to clean. Available in 6mm and 10mm.

💎

Ultra-Clear Toughened Glass

Low-iron glass with no green tint — the choice for premium frameless showers where crystal-clear visibility is important. Available in 6mm and 10mm.

🌫️

Obscure / Matelux (Privacy)

Acid-etched or patterned glass for privacy in wet areas. Matelux (satin etch) and Spotswood/Cathedral patterned obscure glass can all be toughened for shower screen use.

🪞

Low-E High Performance Glass

For shower screens that form part of a thermally-managed space or are used in high-end steam rooms. Low-E coated glass reduces heat transfer while maintaining clarity.

6mm vs 10mm — Which Thickness?

Choosing between 6mm and 10mm toughened glass is the most common decision for a shower screen.

Spec 6mm Toughened 10mm Toughened
Feel & rigidity Standard — flex under pressure Premium — rigid, heavy feel
Common application Semi-frameless, framed systems Frameless shower screens
Max panel size (approx.) Up to ~900mm wide Up to ~1200mm wide (unsupported)
Weight ~15kg/m² ~25kg/m²
Price Lower Higher
Best for Budget-conscious renovations, framed track systems Frameless hinged panels, pivoting doors
💡 Frameless shower screens

Frameless shower screens are typically installed with 10mm toughened glass using point-fixed standoffs or channel systems. The heavier weight requires proper fixings — always consult a qualified glazier for installation.

Ordering Shower Screen Glass Online

1

Measure Your Opening

Measure width and height in mm. For frameless panels, measure the net glass size (not the rough opening). Add clearance for hinges or channels as specified by your fitting system.

2

Select Glass & Thickness

Choose clear, ultra-clear, or obscure. Select 6mm or 10mm depending on your frame type. All shower screen glass is supplied toughened.

3

Add Edge Polish

Exposed edges must be polished. Flat polish suits framed/track systems; mitre or bevel edges suit frameless panels where the edge is decorative.

4

Add Holes If Needed

Require holes for hinges or handles? Specify diameter and location at order. Holes cannot be drilled after toughening.

Shower Screen Glass FAQs

Yes. Under AS1288 and the National Construction Code (NCC), glass in wet areas and shower screens must be safety glass — either toughened (tempered) or laminated. We supply toughened safety glass as standard for all shower screen orders.

Yes. If you need to replace a cracked or broken shower screen panel, measure the existing glass (or the opening if glass is gone) and order a replacement cut to that exact size. Make sure to check whether holes or notches are required for existing hardware.

For frameless shower screens where edges are fully exposed, a flat polish (smooth, safe edges) is the minimum standard. A mitre or bevel edge creates a more premium look and can be selected per-edge when ordering. We apply edge finishes to each side individually — specify which edges are exposed.

Yes. Select the out-of-square option when ordering. We'll contact you for a drawing or template before production begins. Note that toughened glass cannot be cut after toughening, so all shapes must be confirmed before manufacturing.
